What is in each book and how will it help my child?
Jamie Lynn Tatera has created this series of activity books along with a team of children. We know that children learn best through play, and kids like to hear the experiences of other kids. For that reason, each book includes quotes from real kids, comics, and engaging activities. Please know that even though the ideas and activities are playful, children are learning some serious self-compassion skills. Self-compassion is correlated with lower levels of anxiety and depression, and higher levels of life satisfaction and well-being. The Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbooks for Kids are based on activities from the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Children and Caregivers (MSC-CC) program, an approved parent-child adaptation of the research-proven Mindful Self-Compassion program. Dr. Kristin Neff has written the foreword to the series of books.
Playful Characters and Comics
Four resilience habit animals will help your child playfully learn resilience skills as they complete each adventure. Relatable comic characters, real kids, and “feelings habit animals” will acquire the skills along with your child.

“Wow! There is so much wisdom packed into this delightful series of books for kids. Jamie Lynn inhabits the world of children like a child, but she doesn’t waste a single word as she teaches kids to hold their blooming and buzzing world of emotions with kindness and compassion. As the outer world becomes more and more complex, we can only hope the next generation learns the inner skills conveyed in this book. I can hardly wait to share it with others.”

“These workbooks are fun, engaging, and helpful. What a great way to support young people as they begin to explore and play with self-compassion in their lives. The ideas are clever, and the artwork, activities, and visuals will definitely appeal to kids. I especially love the inclusion of actual children with their comments throughout and think young people will see themselves reflected here.”

“After working through the activities in the workbooks, I observe that my eight-year old is gradually more open to practicing self-compassion when she is having a hard time. I don’t notice huge, amazing changes, but I do notice changes that I believe will be long-lasting and will genuinely help her into adulthood. Completing this workbook for my daughter helps me feel like she is going to be okay!”
“I think it’s fun that there are pictures of real kids by the quotes that those kids said. Sometimes, I actually want to do the workbook because it really helps me.“
