Train to Teach: Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Lessons for Kids

Would you like to learn to teach Mindfulness and Self-Compassion lessons to children?

Mindfulness and self-compassion can help children to manage difficult emotions, cope with setbacks, and motivate themselves with kindness. Learn to teach playful and effective lessons based that have been taught to thousands of diverse children in the Milwaukee area and across the world. These lessons incorporate content from the evidence-based Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Children and Caregivers (MSC-CC) program designed by Jamie Lynn Tatera, an elementary school educator and certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher.

Who is this training for?

This teacher training certificate program is designed for educators and other caregivers who would like to teach self-compassion skills to children, ages 6-12. The program is appropriate for individuals who aspire to teach the full 6-week MSC-CC program, as well as those who would like to integrate mindfulness and self-compassion lessons into their ongoing professional activities with children (teaching, psychotherapy, coaching, after school programs, etc.).

Note: Educators can register to receive continuing education professional development credits in conjunction with this program.

What is included with this training?

Course Participants will receive the following for each level of training:

  • 10 self-paced modules on how to teach children mindfulness and self-compassion skills
  • Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Kids Mini-Lessons that you can teach children
  • Tips for best practices for introducing lesson components
  • Excerpts from the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbook for Kids
  • Ideas for how to integrate lesson content into everyday moments
  • Live-Online Q & A session with Jamie Lynn Tatera

Here are the steps for learning to teach Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Lessons to Children

Level one training has no prerequisites. A level one certificate and mindful self-compassion coursework and practice are prerequisites for level 2.

Level 1 Certificate

Complete training and lessons for Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Kids, Level 1

Note: To receive a Level 1 certificate, participants must view all training modules, complete Volume 1 of the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbook for Kids, and submit related documentation.

Your own mindfulness and self-compassion experience and practice lays a foundation for teaching children.

Note: Individuals must complete a minimum of six hours of self-compassion-related training, hold a level one certificate, and have a daily self-compassion practice in order to qualify for level 2. 

Level 2 Certificate

Graduates of level 1 with a personal practice may apply for level 2.

To receive a Level 2 certificate, participants must view all training modules, complete Volume 2 of the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbook for Kids, and submit related documentation.

Graduates of Level 2 can continue their studies to become a teacher of the research-based MSC-CC program.

Teacher Trainer and Lesson Program Developer, Jamie Lynn Tatera

Jamie Lynn Tatera is a Certified Mindful Self-Compassion instructor and the MSC-CC program developer and teacher trainer. She is the author of the award-winning series of Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbooks for Kids, and an elementary school educator with decades of experience teaching elementary-aged kids. She has a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, and she teaches both preservice and inservice educators her resiliency programs.

Jamie Lynn brings a wealth of experience, skill and passion to her MSC-CC classes and teacher trainings.
