Fierce Self-Compassion Course

Self-compassion can be gentle and accepting. And self-compassion can be strong and empowering. As individuals and communities we need both!

What is fierce self-compassion?

To understand self-compassion, you can think about how you would treat a friend when things go wrong and then turn this kindness toward yourself. A metaphor for fierce compassion is a mama bear protecting and providing for her cubs. When we turn this fierceness inward, it looks like protecting ourselves, contributing to our needs, and motivating ourselves with kindness. Fierce self-compassion includes both tender acceptance as well as strong action.

In this eight-week course, participants will learn to:

  • Empower yourself to draw boundaries inWoman practicing Self-Compassion relationships to protect yourself from harm
  • Harness the power of anger to take constructive action
  • Motivate youself to take actions that will help you be fulfilled
  • Balance your strong and tender sides and embrace your  wholeness
  • Use your fierce energy to create positive social change in the world

Fierce Self-Compassion course content was developed by Dr. Kristin Neff. This class is taught by Jamie Lynn Tatera, a certified Mindful Self-Compassion instructor and Fierce Self-Compassion teacher.

Course Outline

Session 1 – Discovering Fierce Self-Compassion: Build community with other participants as you discover tender and strong aspects and identify barriers to practicing fierce self-compassion.

Session 2 – Tender Acceptance: Strengthen tender self-compassion as a sturdy foundation for practicing fierce self-compassion.

Session 3 Protecting Ourselves: Draw on the power of brave, empowered clarity to protect yourself and create boundaries

Session 4 – Harnessing the Power of Anger: Understand and honor the roots of anger. Discover how to integrate tender and fierce energy to skillfully channel anger’s power. 

Session 5 – Motivating Change: Learn to support, empower and motivate yourself with fierce self-compassion.

Session 6 – Meeting Our Needs: Harness the power of fierce self-compassion to live your most fulfilling and satisfying life.

Session 7 – Finding Wholeness: Explore gender dynamics in relationships. Integrate tender and fierce energies to discover your own wholeness.

Session 8 – Finding Meaning: Discover how you can use fierce self-compassion to create meaningful change in the world.
